Group Counseling
Group counseling is a treatment modality that is often the most beneficial option for many student concerns. Counseling Center groups consist of four to 10 participants and two experienced group therapists. We treat a variety of mental health, substance use, and adjustment concerns. Students often benefit from group counseling because:
- Group counseling provides students opportunities for connection and support with peers. Social connection is an important aspect of personal and academic success.
- Group counseling allows students to regularly receive support, work on their treatment goals, and practice new skills.
- Groups meet weekly for 90 minutes.
The Counseling Center offers more than 25 group therapy options. All registered Illinois students who are on campus and who have paid the Student Health Fee are eligible to participate in group counseling.
NOTE: Students first meet with an individual counselor to determine the best group for them. Existing clients should talk with their counselor about their interest in group counseling. New clients should contact the Counseling Center at 217-333-3704 or visit our office (Turner Student Services Building, 610 E. John Street, 2nd floor) to schedule an initial appointment.
